Star product: digital – HP Inkjet Press
This machine is getting a lot of people talking and there is a school of thought that it will take Drupa by storm. It’s not difficult to see why. The 762mm wide inkjet web press has an output rate of 122m per minute, working out at 2,600 A4 pages per minute – outperforming any other digital press currently on the market, it could even give some offset presses a run for their money.
Its maximum resolution is 600dpi and it uses scalable inkjet printing technology. HP is aiming the new press, known as the HP Inkjet Web Press, at multiple markets including books, newspapers, transactional and transpromo, and direct mail. However, while the Web Press will probably draw the biggest crowds on its stand, we just hope they’re patient as it won’t be available until the end of 2009 at the earliest.
