YPS to launch biodegradable shrink film in UK
Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS) will target the supermarkets with the biodegradable polyolefin shrink film it will launch in the UK this month on behalf of its manufacturer Bollore.
Bolphane BYO biodegrades within three years compared to more than three hundred years for conventional polyolefin shrink films and is also fully recyclable.
YPS director Glyn Johnson said that he expects the initial price premium of the new film to drop as supermarkets start to specify the product for its green credentials.
Hence Johnson said he is taking a long-term view about the film as he believes that "over the next five years biodegradable material will become more important".
The film has 70% shrinkage rate to ensure the neat packing of a product and is sealed and shrunk at lower temperatures.
YPS already serve the printing, food packaging and electrical goods markets.
Bollore launched the product at Interpack in April.
