M&S promotes carton recycling
Marks & Spencer is rolling out shelf décor in its liquid food and drink carton sections to remind customers that the packs can be recycled and to help them locate their nearest carton recycling point.
M&S collaborated with The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE UK) on the scheme, which will be introduced across the majority of its stores this week.
Tetra Pak UK environment manager and ACE UK chairman Richard Hands said they were "keen to work with other major retailers and our customers" to promote carton recycling.
Cartons can now be recycled by 82% of local authorities, following the introduction of the carton recycling scheme by ACE UK last year.
Tetra Pak has said that it hopes to have 100% coverage by the end of the year.
Cartons collected in the UK are currently shipped to Sweden, where they are made into plasterboard liner by building materials supplier Lafarge.
Tetra Pak aims to have a UK-based reprocessing facility by the end of 2008.
