HSE reports a decline in manufacturing fatalities
The number of fatalities across Britain's manufacturing industry, which covers the packaging sector, fell last year to 34, according to provisional figures released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
In total, 228 workers across all industries lost their lives due to work-related injuries, compared with 247 in the previous year.
Judith Hackitt, chair of the HSE, said: "Evidence shows that where employers and employees work closely together to agree the agenda and set targets to tackle real issues, they have made significant improvements.
"We want this to continue and we also want to see employers taking more ownership and leadership to embed health and safety in their organisational culture and boardrooms."
The full report will be published later in the year.
