CRR promotes single-stream recycling
The Campaign for Real Recycling (CRR) is using a puzzle cube to promote its message of single-stream waste material collections.
The six faces of the cube, similar to the iconic 1970s Rubik's Cube, represent different recyclable materials – paper, plastic, glass, aluminium, textiles and organics – under the slogan: "Why waste time and money sorting this out when you could collect it separately in the first place?"
CRR coordinator Andy Moore said: "Many elected officials have expressed genuine interest in the issue of material quality and recycling costs, worried that sending co-mingled materials to a MRF (materials recovery facility) could be a mistake."
He added the cube "perfectly summed up the CRR's argument" that mixing materials together caused quality problems.
The CRR works to persuade central government and local authorities of the economic and environmental benefits of single-stream material collections.
Ardagh Glass, Berryman Glass, Chase Plastics and Novelis are among the companies that support the CRR.
