Krones records first half sales growth despite economic conditions

Krones AG, the manufacturer of beverage filling and packaging technology, has reported a 14% increase in sales to EUR1.1bn (£950.1m) in the first half of 2008, helped by rising demand from Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa.

The company's first half earnings before tax rose by 21% to €91.8m, while profit after tax increased by 31% €62.4m.

Volker Kronseder, chairman of the executive board, said: "Our business has developed strongly in the first six months of 2008 and the outlook remains bright. This is thanks in large part to the fact that demand for packaged beverages and foods continues to increase in line with the number of people around the world seeking a prosperous life, even in the weaker economic cycles."

Krones added that its order bookings had risen by 12% to reach €1.2bn.
