Tetra Pak heir escapes prosecution

Hans Kristian Rausing, the heir to the Tetra Pak packaging empire, and his wife Eva will receive a conditional caution after the drugs charges against them were dropped.

The Rausings, who did not attend a court hearing yesterday, escaped prosecution after promising to go to rehab.

Hans Kristian, 45, and his wife, 44, were arrested in April after Mrs Rausing allegedly tried to smuggle drugs into the US embassy.

They were arrested on suspicion of possessing Class A drugs when they were allegedly caught with small amounts of crack cocaine and heroin.

After prosecutors put the case off for two weeks for a conditional caution, the couple will now have to report to the police prior to a final hearing when the case will be closed.

Hans Kristian's father, also called Hans, is the owner of the £5.4bn drinks carton giant, which was founded in 1951, making him one of the UK's richest men.
