UCP produces child resistant closure for Boots
United Closures & Plastics (UCP) has developed a domed 38mm polypropylene child resistant closure for Boots' vitamins that meets BSEN 8317:2004 testing standards.
The Norwich firm said the unusual shape presented a tough challenge because the asymmetrical shape created by the steeply slanted labelling area compromised the traditional shape of the squeeze and turn closure.
It also prevented the Lift 'n' Peel induction heat seal liners from being inserted.
To overcome these difficulties, UCP designed a special liner support structure and snap beads inside the dome.
The lining machine was also adapted so that the liner could be inserted from underneath the closure.
UCP embossed the child resistant closure instructions on the back of the cap and designed a ribbed area above the closure pads to assist with the capping of this otherwise smooth closure.
The 38mm closure in silver fits three pack sizes of 75ml, 120ml and 170ml.
UCP has also supplied Boots with an easy open closure for non-regulated products from the same basic mould set.
