Flowfood adopts paper pulp trays
Flowfood, a provider of community meals in the UK, has adopted paper pulp meal trays made by Oliver Products.
Flowfood, which produces more than 50,000 meals every week, has replaced its plastic C-PET and metal food trays with Olipak trays.
The trays can be frozen to minus 40°C and heated to 205°C in conventional or microwave ovens.
The trays also bring big safety advantages because they provide greater rigidity when heated and the film seal adheres firmly to all inner compartment edges helping prevent spillage or mixing of sauces or liquids in transit.
The move by Flowfood comes after a major strategic review of its business to ensure the company's operations reflect best practice in environmental responsibility and customer care.
General manager of Flowfood, Emma Leonard, said: "We needed to reflect our customers concerns about the environment as well as demonstrating a positive approach to caring for our end-users."
Oliver Products was launched into the UK early last year. It provides trays and tray sealing machines to more than 20 local authority kitchens and third-party providers.
