M&S removes 60% of pizza packaging

Marks & Spencer has removed more than 60% of the packaging from its pizzas as part of this week's relaunch of its Italian range.

Instead of a cardboard box, the pizzas are wrapped in plastic with a cardboard band displaying product information.

The retailer said the new wrappers will save almost 500 tonnes of cardboard and 83 tonnes of plastic in the next year.

They will also show off the fresh ingredients used in M&S pizzas and make it easier for customers to reduce the amount of packaging they throw away.

As well as helping M&S meet its Plan A to tackle climate change, waste and sustainable raw materials, the pizzas have been wood-fired using chips of sustainable beech wood.

What's wrong with using film and label for Pizza, as the major supermarkets do on their deli-counters?
