Sharp invests to boost rPET use

Sharp Interpack has invested £2m in kit to produce new soft fruit punnets that use more recycled content.

The SP(E) containers are made from R-APET plastic, which contains up to 60% recycled material.

The firm said the containers were 87% stronger than its existing SP range, peaking at 172N in compression and load-bearing tests, compared with 92N. They also have ribbed sides to provide rigidity without adding to their weight.
