Nestlé selects NatureFlex for Quality Street
Nestlé has adopted Innovia Films' compostable NatureFlex for Quality Street sweets in time for the Christmas period.
The decision to use NatureFlex, following 18 months of testing, forms part of Nestlé UK's packaging reduction and sustainability objectives.
"We are delighted the NatureFlex colour-film range will help reduce waste and, at the same time, ensure consumers are still able to recognise the brand," said David Rennie, marketing director for Nestlé Confectionary UK.
On of the biggest concerns with using wood pulp-based NatureFlex was ensuring it matched the colours of the traditional cellophane, also supplied by Innovia Films, as closely as possible.
Andy Sweetman, Innovia Films' global marketing manager, said: "Developing a range of coloured films that so closely match the requirements of such a recognised brands and that meet the strict requirements of the composting legislation was a real challenge."
The wood pulp is sourced from suppliers meeting Forestry Stewardship Council, or equivalent, standards and the material is certified compostable to European EN13432 and US ASTM D6400 standard.
The decision comes after 18 months of testing
