Pregis invests £500k to push Jiffy envelopes in Europe

Pregis Protective Packaging Europe has invested £500,000 in end-of-line packing equipment at its Cheshire factory.

Pregis is looking to further push its Jiffy protective envelopes into mainland Europe and the new system at the Winford facility will enable the firm to tailor orders to individual requirements.

It uses automated robotics to assemble flat pack cartons and place the envelopes inside. The boxes can then be stacked on to standard, Euro, or customer-specific pallets.

The system allows for online creation of multi-packs and Pregis has modified the banding on the outer packaging to improve recyclability – paper-based products have a paper band, and plastic-based ones a plastic band.

Alan Weston, general manager for operations at Pregis UK said the investment demonstrated the firm's commitment to developing the Jiffy brand in Europe.

"By further automating our packing lines, we will be well placed to respond quickly to increased demand for our products, while continuing to meet the highest production standards," he said.

Pregis Protective Packaging Europe is part of US firm Pregis that produces a range of rigid and flexible plastic, as well as protective packaging products.
