Sealed Air has released the latest system in its RapidFill range, which it claims can create the lightest void-fill bags current available on the market.

The US producer of Bubble Wrap cushioning said the new line would provide significant savings on shipping and handling costs and can process 10 packages a minute.

A single operator is required to put the bags in the carton, fold the carton's flaps, and send it through a case sealer where it is inflated using sensors to ensure the right amount of air is used.

Andy Robinson, Sealed Air European product manager, said: "We are continually looking for ways to save our customers money by minimising the time and personnel resources required during the packaging process, while increasing outputs and reducing damage."

The bags are available in six sizes, from 380x280mm to 890x635mm and have a one-way valve that allows the air in but not out.

"The system uses the least amount of material possible to achieve effective void-fill and consumers can reuse the bag or deflate and recycle it," said Robinson.
