Alcan veteran Michael Cronin to head up SCA Packaging
SCA has hired Alcan's former head of European food packaging Michael Cronin to lead a new drive for profitability in its own packaging operations.
Cronin takes over from acting president David Stead, who himself replace Phil Almond, who left the role at the head of SCA Packaging last August after after just nine months in the role.
At the time, SCA said in a statement that the company needed a president "capable of leading major changes and with thorough industrial experience".
Speaking today on Cronin's appointment, SCA chief executive Jan Johansson said: "Michael has unsurpassed experience from the packaging business. In his position as president of our European Packaging business Michael will have a strong focus on improving our profitability in our packaging operations."
As head of SCA Packaging, Cronin, who spent 30 years at Alcan, will head up a EUR 3.6bn-turnover packaging giant that employs more than 23,000 people across 300 sites in 30 countries across Europe and Asia.
Cronin was previously president of Alcan Packaging Food Europe. However, he missed out on a top job when Amcor announced that the business would be rolled into a bigger division run by Peter Brues as part of its restructuring of the global Alcan businesses it bought in a $2bn deal last year.
