The statistics show that 162 out of 406 UK councils now collect beverage cartons. In 2011, 31% of local authorities made collections, while in 2006 the figure was only 4%.
“We are delighted that our strategy to increase kerbside collection is paying dividends,” said Richard Hands, ACE UK chief executive. “Our aim is to make it easier for all householders to recycle their cartons by helping local authorities move kerbside collection as soon as possible.”
According to ACE, 88% of UK households have access to carton recycling, either through kerbside collection or the industry’s “bring-back system”. It follows investments made from ACE members Elopak, SIG Combibloc and Tetra Pak.

When it is 40% of cartons recycled it would be worth making a headline not the councils offering collection. We take ours to Sainsbury, not a pretty sight/smell with all the unrinsed cartons.
