CDF bag-in-box gets UN approval

October 26, 2011 Comments Off

Flexible packaging firm CDF Europe has announced that its Cheertainer bag-in-box has been UN certified for the transport of hazardous goods and materials by the Italian Research Institute.

According to CDF, this new package is the first waterproof bag-in-box package certified for UN transport, positioning itself ideally for use within the booming European cleaning chemical and detergents marketplace.

CDF Europe managing director Laura Beechwood said: “ Detergent and industrial cleaning manufacturers told us they wanted to move from heavy rigid packaging to bag-in-box for sustainability reasons but they needed both a UN rating and a waterproof box.

“We have satisfied both criteria with this new package. We plan to promote this development to other industries that need UN performance packaging for use in external environments. We are very proud and excited about this certification.”

The approved container is certified in 10L, 15L, 18L and 20L sizes for packaging groups II and III, covering low and medium hazard levels.

UN certification indicates that the package has been tested in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.

Packages must pass a series of rigorous tests intended to ensure that packaging containing the hazardous materials can withstand normal conditions of transportation.
