A Crown spokesperson said: “We can confirm Crown Food Europe has taken the difficult decision to proceed with a phased closure of the Neath plant following a thorough consultation.
“We will continue to work closely with the 245 employees affected by the changes, offering support to explore redeployment opportunities or to help find alternative employment.”
Unite Wales secretary Andy Richards said that the closure was a “body blow” to the manufacturing sector while Neath’s Assembly Member Gwenda Thomas said that it’s a “devastating blow” for the workforce.
A Welsh government spokesperson added that the closure had resulted from a downturn in global demand.
