HGCA industrial uses manager Richard Saffod said an increasingly carbon conscious world meant there was “tremendous potential” for bioplastics to increase from its current low level of 0.1% of total plastics production.

”In the future, we expect there to be opportunities for UK farmers to provide sustainably-produced, low carbon feedstocks for bioplastics manufacture within the UK,” he said.

The report, and accompanying leaflet, examines a number of areas including key drivers and barriers to use, end-of-life disposal and life-cycle analysis and the potential manufacture in the UK.

“The report is designed to have a wide audience ranging from growers, bioplastic resin and packaging manufacturers through to retailers,” said Safford.
