Philip Chadwick: It’s not too late to be a Fantasy Football champion

Packaging News features editor Philip Chadwick says that slow starting managers in the easyFairs Fantasy Football league still have time to turn it all around.

After one week of the easyFairs Fantasy Football league it’s that time of year to start trotting out one of my favourite clichés – it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

This phrase is particularly pertinent if you’re part of a mini-league. If your side has managed to amass a miserable number of points then you’re likely to be getting a considerable amount of stick from other managers.

In times like these it’s worth remembering that there’s still time to turn it around – and you can count yourself lucky.

In the real football world, managers don’t have that luxury. Last week, Kevin Blackwell left Sheffield United by “mutual consent” after just two games.

Back in 1974, Brian Clough was famously in charge of Leeds United for only 44 days – in that time he told the first team squad to bin all their medals as they’d won them through cheating.

Fantasy managers have time to turn it around and have the added benefit of not falling out with their players.

A few shrewd acquisitions can help you start playing catch-up on your rivals.

And it’s worth adding that it’s still not too late to join – even thought the season has started you can still sign up to easyFairs Fantasy Football.
