Rigid plastics group Plastek UK has extended its product handling set-up with equipment from UPM Conveyors

plastek ukThe Mansfield, Nottingham firm, which makes packaging for personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and food markets, is now able to control the transfer of products from all eight of its injection moulding machines via an HMI touch-screen interface.

Product can now be transferred from the injection moulders to any of Plastek’s fully automatic assembly and packaging machines without any manual involvement.

To achieve the modifications, a statement from UPM said, modifications were required to the existing system including the incorporation of multi way diverters which were based on a unique conveyor design that helped UPM winning a Queens Award for Innovation.

The extension to the system has been made six years after UPM installed a first system for Plastek UK in its new 18,000m2 factory.

In a statement, Mick Shaw, general manager of Plastek UK, praised UPM for completing the project on time without any interruption to production.

Plastek has also awarded UPM a further project, although details of that project have not been released.
