It’s official – Packaging News can now officially say that it counts presidents among its readership.

President Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, is pictured here with Clifton Packaging chairman Khalid Sheikh and a copy of a special mini-magazine produced by Packaging News for a major summit meeting of African leaders last month.

Sheikh (pictured right) was presenting his ‘Buy African, Build Africa’ project at last month’s summit of leaders of the trade bloc Comesa, which includes 19 countries in Eastern and Southern Africa.

Packaging News produced the 4-page magazine to support the promotion of packaging in Africa as a factor in cutting food waste and increasing the value of agricultural goods created by farmers across the continent.

Under Sheikh’s plans, packaging ‘Centres of Excellence’ will offer Western-style packaging services to food producers, allowing them not only to cut food waste but also to create branded consumer products that will command higher value than the raw food currently does.
