A pick-up in consumer packaging has helped pre-press multinational Schawk to more than quadruple its pre-tax profits in the first half of 2010.

In first-half results released earlier in the month, the global group posted pre-tax profit of $18.8m (£12.1m), up from $4.1m in the first half of 2009. Sales were up 5.7% at $229.5m.

The company cited an increase in product and brand activity from consumer packaged goods clients, as well as increased promotional activity from advertising and retail clients for the improvement.

President and chief executive David Schawk said: “The results reflect the signals we received from our consumer packaged goods clients in late 2009 and early 2010 that product and brand activity would be increasing.”

Schawk’s positive results come amid a number of improved first-half results statements from packaging’s listed companies including Smurfit Kappa, Rexam, Huhtamaki and more.
