Sealed Air adds Dow’s Ethafoam portfolio

September 25, 2007 Comments Off

Sealed Air, the protective packaging specialist, is to acquire Dow Chemicals’ Ethafoam and related PE foam packaging lines in North America and Europe

Ethafoam is used in a variety of applications, including electronics, military, sports, leisure and transportation.

Sealed Air will take over the global rights to Dow's Ethafoam, Envision, Synergy and Equifoam brands, including a licence to process technology, customer contracts and product lines.

It will also acquire the rights to the Lamdex trademark.

Once the deal has been completed in the fourth quarter of 2007, Dow will supply products to Sealed Air for a period of up to 18 months from its manufacturing facilities in Hanging Rock, Ohio, and Drusenheim in France. After this, Sealed Air will start making the products at its own facilities.

Sealed Air chief executive William Hickey said the purchase would expand the firm's global specialist materials business and provide additional opportunities to seek out new end-use applications.
