Sealed Air expands testing at Kettering

Sealed Air has officially opened its European Dynamics test centre at its Kettering site, the third of only three test sites in the group.

Kettering is the base for Sealed Air’s protective packaging business in the UK. The site has always had a design centre, but it can now offer shock and vibration testing.

Sealed Air has installed an MTS shock testing machine from one of its sites in Holland in Kettering that was originally purchased in the mid seventies.

A random vibration machine has also been installed at the site, which came into the company when it acquired the Ethafoam business from Dow Chemical in 2007.

European package design and development centre manager Jim Barker said: “We always like to have customers here when we do the testing. If we’ve got a customer here and something goes wrong we can redesign it.”

Barker added that they are looking to invest in more testing equipment in the future.

The resulting European Dynamics test centre replicates test sites in Shanghai, China and the original site in Danbury, Connecticut.

The Kettering European Dynamics test centre services the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.

All Sealed Air’s testing abides by the International Safe Transit Association’s standards.

2010 will mark the 50th anniversary of Bubblewrap and several new launches are planned by Sealed Air.
