Skymark is investing a further 10m in the expansion of its Scunthorpe facility and creating 30 new jobs in the area.

The company’s latest move follows the news last August that Skymark was spending £3m to create about 40 new jobs and buy new equipment, two months after a fire destroyed its Leominster site.

Skymark’s latest announcement ups the total number of jobs created in Scunthorpe to 70.

Dan Richards, Skymark’s sales development manager, told Packaging News that the firm was spending this latest round of investment on two new wide web presses, including a Fischer & Krecke 14S; a new laminator and other kit, including a Combi 3000 laminator and a slitter.

Richards added that the majority of the 30 additional roles had already been filled and that a “huge amount of time, effort and energy” had been expended on recruitment and training.

Skymark, which uses hi-tech presses to print onto plastics and film, said that the investment was part of its plan to double its turnover by 2012. Its current annual turnover is around £28m.

The fire at Skymark’s Leominster factory led to the loss of four presses, a laminator and slitter, which the company has now replaced through its latest investment.

Crews from the Hereford and Worcester Fire Service were called to the factory on 17 June.
