A leading French winery has called on Alcan Packaging to produce the world’s first metal closure for champagne – and has promised that it will retain the ‘pop’ sound when the bottle is opened.

But what does this mean for cork closures? We have already seen significant growth in screw-top closures on bottles of wine over the last few years. Is this the end for cork closures?
