The joint venture company combine the tubes and cores and paper manufacturing operations of Sonoco and Ahlstrom in Finland, which operate around 30 tube and core plants and seven paper mills across Europe.
The increases will be effective for shipments after 27 October.
Eddie Smith, Sonoco’s vice president for Europe, said: “Continued inflation pressure, predominantly in energy and chemicals, has resulted in paperboard capacity being taken out of the market, most recently in Finland, Italy, France and the UK.”
He added that Sonoco is committed to reducing its operating costs but cannot absorb all the increases.
