Blue Marlin has created Halloween-themed packaging for Tango that will be used to drive sales in October.

Brand owner Britvic is continuing its tongue-in-cheek marketing for Tango by announcing the drink as as the “official sponsor” of Halloween and the special-edition look that builds on the longstanding ‘side-effects’ campaign.

All 330ml and 2-litre packs will have a collectable Halloween design with the slogan ‘Too much Tango turns you into a zombie’.

Ball Packaging is making the new packs will be introduced from this month and be on shelf until the beginning of November.

Adam Goodger, Tango senior brand manager, said Halloween was a big opportunity for retailers to boost sales.

“Tango has always been a brand that dares to be different. The zombies are great and completely in keeping with Tango’s out there, irreverent personality,” he said.

“Limited editions keep our consumers entertained and engaged and enable us to stay a teen icon.”

A spokeswoman for Blue Marlin described the project as a great example of the power of packaging as media.

“Exploiting the power of packaging is a really savvy way of communicating with an audience that is notoriously difficult  to engage.”

In March, Britvic used temperature-sensitive ink for a special-edition ‘cheeky’ Tango can.

Last year, it printed Tango cans upside down in response to a dare from social marketing website Bragster.
