Tesco is calling on Faraday’s packaging expertise to help meet sustainability and packaging reduction targets.

Britain’s largest retailer wants Faraday to look at areas such as supply chain efficiency, design and consumer insight with the view to reducing the amount of packaging it uses across its business.

Stephen Pizer, Tesco packaging technical manager, said the multiple was particularly interested in Faraday’s links to academia.

“Partnering with Faraday gives us a forum to discuss and share ideas, and allows us to get an early view of future innovations and their potential applications,” he said.

Faraday provides a link between firms in the FMCG sector and academia and counts companies such as Coca-Cola, Mars, Reckitt Benckiser and Unilever among its clients.

Marketing manager Pauline King said: “Tesco is already involved in our project on improving recyclability of mixed plastics packaging, but we look forward to helping the company in other areas of the business.”
