SmartPack introduces water pouch

Dutch firm SmartPack International is targeting the UK retail, schools and events markets with its plastic water pouch.

The SmartPack, which was developed in conjunction with water cooler supplier Dolphin, is aimed at consumers "interested in health and convenience", the firm said, and is suited to high volume sales such as in stadiums.

Its 'tear and sip' feature reduces the amount of material used, and makes it easy to dispose of after use. It can also be branded for specific applications.

Dolphin is the first company to use the 250ml pouches and the product is being supplied in shelf-ready packs of 12.

A spokesman for SmartPack's UK and Ireland agent, GFT Retail, said there had already been a "massive amount of interest" from retailers, such as Morrisons, and the company was in discussions with schools.

He added: "The product is suitable for any major event where getting rid of waste can be a problem."
