Heidelberg to target packaging market with digital press

Printing press giant Heidelberg is to launch a new inkjet printing product line at Drupa as it outlined aims to make packaging a bigger part of its business

The German group is to unveil the Linoprint L range at the show which is designed for the printing of labels, blister packs and films.

The launch comes after Heidelberg acquired digital print technology group CSAT last summer and is based on its iTS6oo technology.

Daniel Dreyer, head of digital packaging solutions at Heidelberg, said the technology was a “tried-and-tested and technologically advanced drop-on-demand inkjet system” that can run as a standalone machine or be integrated into packaging lines.

In its litho business, a pre-show statement from Heidelberg said that it was aiming to increase the sales to the packaging sector in its Very Large Format (VLF) business.

Currently, 41% of VLF presses are sold to the packaging market but the company is hoping to push that to 66% in the coming years.

At Drupa, the company will be showing a new Speedmaster XL105 perfector that promises up to a 20% increase in productivity and double-sided carton printing as well as its range of workflow, software and finishing equipment.

Drupa is the world’s biggest printing trade show and takes place on 3-16 May in Dusseldorf, Germany.
