The new inline kit has enabled the firm to reproduce gold or silver as spot colours and also varnishes that were not possible with its existing machinery, and had to be done offline.
Managing director David Hedley said the addition would enable conventional and digital printing to work better together.
NSD, formerly Simpson Label Company, was initially using the new facility to meet the demands for a specific customer, but technical manager Sandy Cass told Packaging News there had been some inquiries from existing customers.
“It’s good for upmarket products such as gifts, drinks and craft foods in short runs,” he said.
The press also enables the firm to use optically brightened lacquers for HM Revenue and Customs in the production of UV-visible varnishes for duty stamps.
