Organisers for the easyFairs packaging show have said yesterday’s attendance set a new record for footfall for its packaging shows.

The four easyFairs shows – Packaging Innovations, EcoPack, PackTech and Contract Pack – opened their doors at the NEC yesterday morning.

Although official figures have not yet been published, Declan Gane, marketing director for easyFairs UK, told Packaging News: “It’s been an extremely busy day – the biggest of any easyFairs packaging show, anywhere, to date.”

As well as the 300-plus exhibitors, a major draw proved to be the learnShop seminars, where it was a case of standing-room only for speakers such as Asda’s buying manager for packaging and the environment Shane Monkman – who speaks again today at 3pm – and Innocent head of packaging Simon Oxley.

The Lion’s Lair event, a Dragon’s Den-style contest where three companies pitched their packaging developments to a team of experts, also pulled in the crowds.

The event will continue today.
