Mintel highlights global packaging innovation

Mintel, the research consultancy, has created the Packaging Appreciation Club (PAC) in response to client requests for innovative packaging examples from around the world.

PAC members will receive a quarterly box of 10 products sourced globally, a Powerpoint presentation with analyst commentary on the selections and, where appropriate, commentary on wider packaging trends.

The club is aimed at people working specifically within packaging development.

Mintel has chosen the packs according to their design, materials, functionality and the potential for cross-category applications.

An example of a pack included in the scheme is the Benadryl Perfect Measure single dose "spoon" from Pfizer Consumer Healthcare in the US.

The "spoon" is incorporated into the pack and allows parents to squeeze the medicine out while the spoon is in the child's mouth.

Head of Mintel research consultancy Helen Osman said that pilot tests proved popular with clients and were "getting the ideas flowing".

Annual membership costs £6,000, which includes shipping and product costs.

Mintel's Global New Products Database (GNPD) monitors worldwide product innovation in consumer packaged goods markets through associates based in more than 130 countries.

More than 650 new products are added to Mintel GNPD every day.
