Contract manufacturer and packer Hallam Beauty has been sold to Swiss cosmetics manufacturer Mibelle for an undisclosed amount.

Sheffield-based GRI Group bought Hallam from administration in 2005 and has since increased turnover fourfold to more than £36m.

Hallam provides a range of contract manufacturing and packing services for the personal care and cosmetics sectors. GRI retains a 30% stake.

GRI chief executive Graham Royle said it had taken the decision to sell the majority stake to Mibelle to “benefit from the major synergies derived from partnering with another technically strong, European-based business in the same sector”.

“This development represents a fabulous opportunity for Hallam Beauty’s customers to benefit from an even wider range of product offerings,” he said.

Law firm Halliwells and accountants Hart Shaw acted on behalf of GRI. Chris Shaw, corporate finance partner at Hart Shaw, said: “The disposal of Hallam Beauty to Mibelle clearly demonstrates the outstanding job the management has done in turning this business around and growing it in the last five years.

“The business has a loyal supplier base and serves many well-recognised brand and private-label customers,” he said.

Mibelle is owned by Swiss conglomerate Migros.
