Epson has announced that its stand at print exhibition Ipex in May will focus heavily on packaging, and the firm will be demonstrating its new digital label press at the show.

The inkjet press is aimed at short-run label printing and is capable of speeds up to five metres a minute, using a six-colour pigment ink system.

Epson said that the press would be able to print on a range of standard media including semi-gloss, film and matt label stock up to 320 microns in thickness and on rolls between 80mm and 330mm wide.

Epson’s digital label printing kit will be joined by other packaging-related products on its stand.

It will also be showing the Stylus Pro WT7900 inkjet printer, which will be demonstrating contract packaging proofs and sample production.

The printer features the ability to produce high-density white tints using using an ink that has been developed specifically for the printer and is being touted by Epson as a world-first.

The Stylus Pro WT7900 will also be on show at this month’s easyFairs Packtech event, which is hosting a special Print for Packaging Zone.

Ipex organiser IIR Exhibitions revealed yesterday that digital print was a big area of growth for the show, which takes place at the Birmingham NEC on 18-25 May.

Packaging News sister title PrintWeek is to produce a daily show newspaper at Ipex, while Packaging News is producing a special supplement on the show’s packaging highlights.
