Label specialist Kingsway Printers has installed an HP digital printing press to target growing demand for shorter run lengths and variable data.

The HP Indigo ws4500 and AB Graphic Omega Digicon Series 2 finishing unit were installed in December and enable more frequent design changes and help Kingsway respond to customers’ needs to keep less stock on site.

Kingsway managing director Richard Pullan said the firm had been evaluating the potential for digital label print for around two years and discovered the HP press at last September’s LabelExpo.

“We saw opportunities to take advantage of digital printing like short runs and variable digital printing, and we felt confident about the level of service HP could offer,” he said.

The ws45000 is a seven-colour press that can match 97% of the Pantone colour range. It uses EskoArtwork software to streamline pre-press functions and manage variable data.

Lincolnshire-based Kingsway was established as a commercial printer in 1972 and now produces a range of labels including peel-and-read and no-label look designs for a variety of sectors.
