NASA sends DataLase codes into spacecatherinedawes, 1 May 2008Be the first to comment on this article NASA is testing the durability of DataLase coding technology at the International Space Station (ISS). RFID tags and aluminium discs have been marked with 2D codes and text, and will be attached to the outside of the ISS for 12 months. DataLase’s Guardmark laser coding will be exposed to extreme levels of UV radiation, atomic oxygen and hard vacuums. If the markings perform under these conditions, the technology will be used to track and trace equipment on future space missions. DataLase codings will also be added the list of component identification requirements for NASA and the US Armed Forces. The parts were launched into space on 7 February aboard the space shuttle Atlantis. DataLase technology uses a laser beam to indelibly mark items with colour changing ink. Speak Your Mind |
