Trial RFID options at GS1 UK’s test centre

The centre, hosted by Linpac's Intellident business in Winsford, Cheshire, will offer companies impartial advice and the chance to test RFID technology from suppliers of their choice.

David Lyon, EPCglobal business manager at GS1 UK, said the centre could offer RFID technology configured for packaging applications.

He said the site offered three "layers" of service. The most basic is a half-day demonstration that includes background information on RFID technology and standards.

Companies that want to pursue their interest in RFID further can then carry out structured tests, which could take a few days, or GS1 UK would be able to offer industry-specific sessions.

In the most advanced service, GS1 UK will design a full RFID solution for companies to adopt.

Lyon stressed that the centre was "completely vendor independent" and would test technology from any supplier.

"We have also installed current 'best of breed' technology," he added.

Logistics company Christian Salvesen, Carphone Warehouse and mechanical sealing group Aesseal used the centre before its launch.
